Beginners and Improvers Running Group

We are a Community Running Club and Membership is FREE as are all our  sessions.

If you would like to join us, you can download the new membership form from the Membership Tab on this site and return it to the address at the bottom of the form. Once your application has been submitted you can join our Facebook Group RUNBLANDFORD (MEMBERS).

*If you are a member of another club, you are very welcome to join in any of our session having filled out the "Second Claim Club" section on the Membership Form.

The group was set up in 2011 as a 'pathway' for new or novice runners and joggers, into the wider local running community. It's aim was to provide other groups in the area with a steady stream of new runners. At the same time, it has also gained a growing number of regular attendees, happy to remain running predominently with the Group. The Group has also been of use to people training towards a “Race for Life” or similar events. Nevertheless, the aim of the group remains to simply encourage an enjoyment of running in a social and friendly atmosphere, with a focus on new runners.

Runblandford is affilliated to England Athletics.

Summer Session we meet at 6.30pm every Monday night (inc. Bank Holidays) from April to September at Blandford Forum Recreation Ground. Also, in the summer on Thursday nights, running activities starting at various locations in Blandford and the surrounding villages.

Winter Session we continue through the winter from October to March, but due to the nature of the longer winter training runs, around the town and under street lighting, these sessions are less suitable for absolute novice runners.

We do not have a 'minimum running standard' but for non-runners to fully take part and enjoy the sessions we would suggest that a good starting point is to already be able to continually slow jog for 4 minutes then walk for 1 minute. If that seems a bit daunting, then please look out for one of our Summer Couch to 5K courses by following our runblandford Facebook Page.

This is a FREE to join group, please see the Contact Details at the top of this page for our meeting times. Click the MEMBERSHIP tab for a joining form.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU VERY SOON...

Summer Season: April to September

The Group meets  for its Summer Training session at 6.30pm every Monday night April to September at Blandford Forum Recreation Ground (Blandford Cricket Club), rain, shine and Bank Holidays!

*You are welcome to join the club at any time of the year, but if you are a complete beginner it would be advisable to start with us as early as possible in the Summer Season as the dark  winter training is less suitable.

Members also meet on Thursday evenings througout the Summer Training Season, for various running based activities including Hashing, Orienteering and Off-Road running. These take place at various locations in the Blandford Forum Area, often from a pub, sometimes concluding with a picnic and are primarily designed to be fun, social and sometimes both! Details, instructions and locations are subject to change and are usually given out at training sessions or via our social media pages.

Winter Season: October to March

The Group continues throughout the winter every Monday from October to March, however due to the nature of the longer winter training runs under street lights around the town, these sessions are not suitable for “absolute beginner”runners

We also organise an "Interval" session on Thursday's thoughout the winter season. Details of which can be obtained at Monday night training.
